The Beautiful Chennai and its Many Wonders

Indian sub continent is a land of diverse culture and religions. There are numerous people within the border who are different in color, caste, creed and religion. Chennai is one of the Indian metropolitan city of Tamil Nadu State, where people speak a South Indian language and are different from North Indian people. It is also among the largest cities of India. There are numerous attractive places and water bodies in Chennai city.

The British rulers in 1639 AD established the city. The city still mirrors some of the architectural glory of British rule like Churches, cathedrals and old governmental buildings. Basically Chennai, originally known as Madras, is the habitat of Dravidian culture and civilization. It is one of the oldest cultural lineages in the world. The traditional Tamilian culture is dominating with specks of British supremacy. It is one of the chief trading points of India with numerous harbor and beaches. There is subtle innocence and naivety in the land and its people, which attracts any foreign tourist. The unspoiled beauty of the people and their surroundings are evident in the sandy beaches of Marina Bay and many others.

A tour to the city will take you into medieval period of India, where the land was a glorious treasure of Temples, shrines and monuments, not to forget the numerous forts and majestic palaces. Some of the charming places in Chennai are:

  • Majestic ST. George Fort : The British rulers founded the Fort in the year 1639. It was the original rampart of the English Empire in Indian terrain. This Fort has a lot of historical significance; it was an iconic landmark for the growing modernism in the city. In recent times the fort is a hall for state legislative assembly meetings, many secretarial offices are housed in this castle. The fort is definitely a masterwork with genius architectural structure and splendid interiors. One of the must visit place if you visit the city.
  • Revered Kapaleeswarar Temple : it is a 13 th century architectural wonder. The ancient centurion scripts are still housed inside the temple premises. The temple pays homage to Lord Shiva, one of the three most powerful gods in Hindu Mythology. The Gopuram of the temple is around 37 meters in height and beautifully constructed with rare carvings that illustrates many a divine tale from mythological pages. The Temple is a predominant and unique feature of ancient Dravidian culture.
  • Divine Parthasarathy Temple : It was built in the late 8 th century AD. Lord Krishna is worshipped in idol form inside the temple. The name itself is one of the many names of the Blue-skinned Lord. Five different forms of Lord Vishnu is worshipped as deities. They are also known as Vedavalli Ammai.
  • Magnificent Marina Beach : It is suggested to be the second biggest beach in the whole world, with a majestic length of 12 km. ideal place for all kinds of water sports like yachting, rafting, deep diving and of course swimming. The perfect time to tour the beach is early mornings and mid-evenings, when the tide is low and there are many hawkers and numerous entertaining activities to keep you engrossed.
  • Holy Santhome Cathedral : It is Portugal construction, built in the 14 th century AD. The Santhome Cathedral is a Holy Pilgrimage for Christians. But people of all religion happen to visit this sanctum Cathedral believing in the power of the Almighty.
You may also visit the numerous art galleries and museums found in the heart of this amazing city. Many wondrous sculptures and armory are displayed for public view. Chennai is a unique and wonderful land with a hot and humid climate.
