The Grand Canal is worth every penny with a lovely gondola ride, water taxis and waterbuses. If you are wealthy enough, then you may prefer the stately Gondola or water taxis, but be prepared to shell out large dough for a ride through the Canal. But, most of the tourists prefer the waterbuses like the many locals. The Canal is curvy and gives you an exotic view of ornamental bridges, historical buildings and breath-taking palaces. Common vehicles like delivery vans, ambulances and cars, share the main waterway, as they go about their routine chores.
Venice is a treasure chest of paintings, art structures, statues and mural paintings found in Churches, museums and palaces. The 20 th century art gallery is well exhibited in the Peggy Guggenheim museum. Venice also offers culinary respite for many foreigners and locals. The little shops and cafes around the popular St. Mark's Square provide delicious meals and brunches for your touring spirit. You may grab a quick coffee or savour a ridiculously priced Bloody Mary at prime Bars. The Venetian delicacies, particularly the seafood is worth trying and you will not be disappointed. Explore the historical canals and do lots of shopping at Italian designer stores, even the artifacts and glass works at local markets give good value for money. But, many shopping malls are expensive and prices can be alarmingly steep. However, a costly affair like Prada is less costly than in US cities of LA and New York.
You may get motor launches for sightseeing world famous Churches like St. Mark's Cathedral. Take a tour of the Doge's Palace, which houses the Golden Staircase from where you can view the St. Mark's basin. While travelling by motorboat, you will pass under the famed Rialto Bridge. The Ghetto has historical significance, as in 16 th century the Jews were only allowed live in a Ghetto; it offers an insight into the life of the olden Jewish people who lived in it. You can take a motorboat to sightsee some of the preserved Ghetto civilization. Even a Gondola ride is magical enough to explore the Canals with a Italian gondolier belting it out in the local language.
Some major attractions are Doge's place, Bridge of Sighs and St. Mark's Basilica. The Gothic palazzo is a sparkling structure, dated back to the 13 th century; it was again rebuilt in 1600. The Basilica Church is also known as Church of gold. A great dome caps this Byzantine wonder, on the portico you may find the famous horses of St. Mark's. the atrium houses 5 to 6 cupolas with mosaic paintings of the Old Testament. The treasury holds the heads or skulls of great authorities of the Church order and controversial chalices, goblets and Gothic historical evidences.
The famous St. Mark's square is a cultural mix of the Venice City. You can laze around for hours watching people of different cultures and countries paying their respect to the Saint. You may also feel free to feed the en number of pigeons gathered for a hearty meal. There are exquisite musical galas and shows by chamber orchestras and similar groups. All in all a must visit place for a Venetian tourist.
