Jim Corbett National Park - An Adventurous Tourism Destination

History and Geographical Structure

Jim Corbett National Park is situated in the Nainital, Bijnore district of Uttaranchal. This park was founded in 1936 and is extended over an area of 318 Sq. Km. After India gained independence in 1947, the park was named as Ramganga national park. In 1956, in the memory of Jim Corbett who was the honored hunter and environmentalist, it was renamed as Jim Corbett National Park. This park creates the ideal ambience for all the stories written on man-eaters of Kumaon. Corbett has been a hunting land for ex- rulers as well as wildlife ardent from a long time. Jim Corbett is designed in such a way that makes the visitors deeply enjoy the scenery and the varied wildlife living here.

The ‘Project Tiger' was launched in 1973 to save the India's dwindling tiger population here itself. This park has the largest density of tigers in the country more than one tiger every 10 Sq. Km.

  • The main attraction of Corbett Park is the twinkling Ramganga River that flows down from the hilly landscape of the wild life. This park is the center of attraction for the people for its diversified flora that provides the safe dock to crocodiles, fish and creates a supreme domicile for the grand Indian tigers.
                  
  • Jeep safari
  • The best way to travel with Corbett National Park conveniently is the Jeep Safari. It can be hired for the park trips from the Ramnagar, the KMVN tourists and other tourist's agencies. Jeep Safari is very adventurous in its own way. You must keep some points in mind, for example, you should not wear bright colors or strong perfumes, remain quite, bring your binoculars and enjoy the adventure near you and explore the wild life.

  • Corbett is renowned for its wild life varieties of tigers, elephants, leopards and different types of deer species like Chital, Sambar. Two hours elephant ride is another good thing about this place. You get the chance to experience the tiger sight though they are few, but you may be pleased with fresh foot marks. Explore the sea, grass, flora and fauna you will love it as all these are very rare views.

Lodging

The finest place to settle within the park is at Gairal, Dhikala and Bijrani which happen to be about 9 km. far from the Corbett Park. There is a nice pleasing cottage named Quality Inn Corbett Jungle Resort, which is outfitted with all contemporary amenities and delicious continental cuisines, offered at Rs.3200 including meals. Another lodge called Forest Rest House in the park facilitates the tourists with generators and is accessible at the rate of Rs.500 per room.

Appropriate Time to Visit

The finest time to visit the park is from mid November to mid June. The park remains closed from June to November, when the heavy rain floods the riverbeds. Summer time is the peak for observing big mammals as they approach close to the water bodies and wintry weather season for waterbeds.

How to Get There

  • Air: Pantnagar airport, which is 51 km. away from the National Park, is the nearest airport. Through bus and taxi one can easily reach Jim Corbett National Park.
  • Rail: Ramnagar is the nearest railhead; it is 21km. far from the Park. It is easily available by road from Ramnagar.

  • Road:Taxis and tourists cabs are easily accessible for the park from Ramnagar and can be hired at realistic charges. For the people's convenience Delhi Transport Corporation also runs semi-deluxe buses. These buses are safer mode to reach the park.
