It was recorded in the Rajtarangini of Kalhan that in the 3rd century BC Ashoka, the Emperor initiated the Srinagar city at Pandrethan, which is nearly 8 km away from Srinagar. Until 630 AD Srinagar remained as the capital of Kashmir when Parvarashana, the Second founded the new city namely Parvarapura near Kohi-I-Maran, the present city which later was known as Srinagri.

Visit to Dal Lake Srinagar: Rowing over the lake areas by Shikara is an awesome experience to the tourists. Dal Lake, the most popular lake of Srinagar, provides splendid moods and colors with every change in the weather. The tourists can also visit the three islands of Dal Lake. Silver Island popularly known as Char Chinar and Golden Island at the south end and Nehru Park need a special mention.

Walnut and Deodar woods are used to decorate the houseboats whereas the base of the boats is made from special woods, which have enhanced the longevity of the boats. Moreover, Dal Lake houses more than thousands of houseboats, which are popular for their exclusive luxury facilities, provided to the tourists.

Travel to Nagin Lake of Srinagar: Located 9 km far from Dal Lake, Nagin Lake, is also popular for some of the most extravagant deluxe houseboats. Tranquil environment of the lake area has a charming effect on the tourists and the foreigners find this place more attractive to stay.

Tour to Cheshmashahi of Srinagar: Laid out in the year of 1632 by Mardan Khan, Cheshmashahi, the garden is known for a spring which has medicinal properties. Situated 4 km away from Boulevard's hustle and Bustle the garden is a popular serene place to the seeker of calmness.

Must to See Mughals Gardens of Srinagar: Situated between Dal Lake and Zaborwan mountain range on Boulevard, celebrated Mughals Gardens is one of the popular picnic spots for the tourists.

Tour to Srinagar Pari Mahal: Located 3 km ahead of Cheshmashahi, Pari Mahal, a school of astrology was founded by Prince Dara Shikoh, eldest son of Shah Jahan who had a keen eye to observe the stars and Sufism. Tour to Shalimar Garden in Srinagar: Located 15 km away from the city Shalimar Garden is marked for some of the enchanting Mughal structure sculpted from black marble in Diwan-I-Khas, used for the guests of the emperors. Emperor Jehangir has constructed this Shalimar garden of Srinagar for his wife Nur Jehan in 1616.

Visit to Nishat Bagh in Srinagar: Situated 11km from Srinagar city, Nishat Bagh has 7 terraces and a stone channel for running water in the middle. Abul Hassan Asif Khan, eldest brother of Nur Jehan has designed the garden. He too was the governor of Kashmir during the reign of Jehangir.

Religious Places in Srinagar:

Tour to Hazratbal Shrine of Srinagar: The holy remnants of Prophet Mohammed were brought to India in the year of 1634 by Syed Abdullah. In 1692, it was received by Khwaja Noor Ud Din, a Kashmiri trader. During the occasions (relics are only displayed in the occasions) the devotees assemble in a complex to have a glimpse of the remnants. Sculpted with the white marbles, the complex has retained its glow and stature same over the decades. It can also be visited via Dal Lake.

Travel to Shankar Acharya Temple in Srinagar: Situated 5 km away from Nehru Park, this temple is the home of 300 golden and silver statues.

Visit to Shah Hamdan Mosque in Srinagar: One of the oldest mosques of Srinagar, Shah Hamdan Mosque was constructed by Qutub Ud Din in the year of 1395. It is a tribute to Syed Ali Hamdani Rh Shah Hamdan who played an important role imparting Islam in the valley and in Persia with his 700 followers. Beautiful wood carving and charming papier Mache work are the added attraction of the mosque.
